Information about Casigno
In the Apennines just south of Bologna, you will find yourself in the midst of oaks and chestnut thickets, hills and valleys that go from three hundred to a thousand metres, changing all the time in breathtaking views and colours. These are the Apennine valleys between the river Reno and Panaro. The area is rural and the local Italians are very friendly and helpful, especially if you try to speak a few words of Italian.
A few kilometres from the cities of art such as Florence, Ferrara, Ravenna, Mantua, Venice, Verona, the Spa town of Porretta and not forgetting Bologna.
The area is also known for its gastronomic delights: mushrooms, white truffles, Potatoes especially those from Tole, chestnuts, and world -famous cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano produced in the mountains.
There is a wealth of animals here, and also a vast assortment of protected flora. The land is rich in history and art: numerous water mills still working, the classic houses with towers and the splendid architectural remains from 1200 onwards. Still so well preserved. All around there is a natural uncontaminated environment, intersected by innumerable walking paths, where peace and quietness mingle in perfect harmony with the fragrance and murmurs of the woods.
