Bellano is located on the eastern shore of Lake Como. This small town, has escaped mass tourism and is is surrounded by a lovely landscape characterized by beautiful lakeside walks. The old town centre is characterized by interesting tight alleys with medieval houses, arches that date back to the 17th century and Baroque courts.

From the old town centre go up until you find the spot where the Pioverna stream forms the Orrido, a gorge dug in the rocks, formed more than 15 million years ago and in the past used to exploit to iron. Today it can be visited passing through narrow hanging passages.

You can enjoy a lovely scenery walking on the lakefront path, where there is a beach-front concession and a few pebble beaches. There are also two trekking paths with panoramic view that lead you in Valsassina.

Of remarkable interest it is also the visit to Premana, a village 21km away, famous for the handicrafts from where you can admire a beautiful view over the whole lake.

Directions

From Milano, you can take a train to Como and then take the C10 bus to Menaggio. From Menaggio, take the ferry to Varenna. And then take either the bus or train to Bellano. There is also a ferry from Varenna to Bellano but does not run very often.


From Bergamo, you can take a direct train with a change in Lecco.
